From crossroads village to retail hub

Cherry Valley's older residential core sits away from the interstate and mall corridor, dating back to the village's days as a rural crossroads community. Growth since the mall's development has added newer subdivisions further from that original center, so roof age here varies more by which part of the village a house sits in than almost anywhere else in the service area.

What that mix means

Older homes near the original village center are more likely to be on a second or third roof and worth a ventilation check, similar to older neighborhoods in Rockford proper. Newer subdivision homes closer to the interstate are more likely on their original roof, which — depending on the build year — may be approaching the end of its practical service life in this climate even without visible damage.
