An older core than its neighbor

Rockton's downtown and the neighborhoods around it are considerably older than Roscoe's next door — a real 19th- and early 20th-century town core, not a subdivision-era build-out. That means steeper, more complex rooflines are common closer to downtown, along with older chimneys that are more likely to be on original or long-since-patched flashing rather than anything replaced in the last couple of decades.

What older construction means for roofing here

Homes from this era often have less attic ventilation than current code calls for, since ventilation standards have changed considerably since these houses were built. Less ventilation means more heat reaching the roof deck in winter, which is one of the more common contributors to ice dam formation at the eaves — worth checking if you're in one of Rockton's older homes and dealing with recurring icicles each winter.

Newer growth further from downtown
